Job Hunting

I went to a small career fair last week and I learned a few things in that event:

Resume

  • First thing to write in your resume: Your Objective! What is it that you want?!
  • Make sure your resume is 'customized' to the job you are applying for; put as mush as keywords related to that job in your resume
  • The more general your resume is, the less chance it will get to be in front of recruiter's eyes

Interview

  • Prepare questions to ask your interviewer (at least 50 questions)! Questions like your daily routine in your company and etc.
  • Prepare to answer the questions that will definitely be asked: what is your strength and weakness? Why do you want to apply this job?
  • Think about a weakness that is not really a weakness to you and boost about it a bit at interview if such questions are asked
  • 50% should be your talking, and let the interviewer talk the rest
  • The first and last sentence in the interview should be 'Thank you for taking your time to see me'
  • Be sure to practice mock interview and 'self-selling speech' before going to interview

Job hunting skills

  • The easiest way to get hired is by NETWORKING; giving your resume to someone you are acquainted with that happened to be in the company you are interested in working in
  • Practice Business Writing
  • Use phone call to call the department head in the morning (10:00am or at noon)
  • Yahoo HotJobs/ Monsters.com/ Dice.com
  • Be sure to reread your email for at least FIVE times before sending out!

Start Your Own business

  • You can start your own business easily in the US and get employed by your own company so that you will not need to worried about obtaining H1B visa!
